HandbillMatter Daily: Tell us about your "Heart of the Farm" Festival on November 13th.

Happy Heart Farm: Our upcoming festival is a family friendly event with complimentary beer, apple cider, and local food tastings, live music, children's activities (face painting, crafts, and bean bag toss).  One of our presenters is Koa Halpern who at 12 yrs. won entrepreneur of the year with his organization called Fast Food Free.  He will be speaking of the ills of fast food and encourage kids to sign his fast food free pledge for two weeks. Chair massage and family photos are available for an extra fee.

MD: How much money do you need to raise to meet your goal of feeding 40 low-income families in Fort Collins?

HHF: We would like to raise $5,000 at this event and a total of $30,000 to feed 40 families by next June.

MD: How did this program start?

HHF: Happy Heart Farm has fed low-income families for it's entire 27 year history.  For the recent economic difficulties, we’ve increased the number of families from 6 families in 2009, 22 in 2010 and 40 for 2011. The families are fully integrated with our other paying members at the farm. They get delicious biodynamic produce for over 20 weeks (23 this year).  We were also able to provide local organic eggs as well this year.

MD: Any other information or things we should know?

HHF: Participants in our program get a sense of hope when they come to the farm each week to get their food and have a chance to learn how to prepare new foods with high vitality and superior taste!
