This year the Sustainable Living Fair will be moving to Legacy Park located along the Poudre River in downtown Fort Collins at 300 Woodlawn Drive. The fair will be held September 18-19 and have 250 exhibitors and over 100 workshops. There will also be four keynote speakers attending this year's fair: Jeff Mapes, Heather C. 2010 Keynote Speakers:
Jeff Mapes, senior political reporter for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland and author of Pedaling Revolution: How Cyclists are Changing American Cities will speak on Saturday, September 18th at 12pm. A longtime bike commuter, Mapes decided to write his book after watching the growth of a robust urban bike culture in Portland. Pedaling Revolution was reviewed by The New York Times and numerous other publications and is now in its third printing. Mapes has covered numerous state, congressional and presidential campaigns as well as several sessions of the Oregon Legislature, and he is a former Washington correspondent.
Heather C. Flores, certified permaculture designer and author of Food Not Lawns will speak on Saturday, September 18th at 2pm. This book combines practical wisdom on ecological design and community-building with a fresh, green perspective on an age-old subject. Activist and urban gardener, Flores shares her nine-step permaculture design to help farmsteaders and city dwellers alike build fertile soil, promote biodiversity, and increase natural habitat in their own "paradise gardens." www.HeatherCFlores.com
Andrew Harvey internationally acclaimed poet, novelist, translator, mystical scholar, and spiritual teacher will speak on Sunday, September 19th at 12pm. Harvey has published over 20 books including Son of Man and The Return of the Mother. Harvey has taught at Oxford University, Cornell University, The California Institute of Integral Studies, and the University of Creation Spirituality, as well as, various spiritual centers throughout the United States. He was the subject of the 1993 BBC film documentary The Making of a Modern Mystic. He is the Founder of the Institute for Sacred Activism in Oak Park, Illinois, where he lives. www.andrewharvey.net
Doug Fine, adventure journalist, NPR contributor and author of the bestseller Farewell, My Subaru will speak on Sunday, September 19th at 2pm. His book includes practical resources for regular Americans who want to live greener and funny sidebars with facts you never imagined about the clean, local life. The Sustainable Living Fair is a hands-on, family oriented event designed to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about sustainable living practices, renewable energy solutions, environmental & social responsibility, natural health, green building, alternative fuel vehicles, sustainable agriculture, local economies and so much more.
Extended workshops featured at the Fair include five workshops where participants pay an additional fee to work hands-on with the instructors. These workshop topics include building a straw-bale building, a homebrew wind turbine and vegetable engine conversion kits.
